The Deveron is an excellent sea trout river, with annual catches around 1500 sea trout. The river also has a reputation for quality brown trout fishing. Indeed, the Deveron is known for producing large fish of all the three species within the river.
The Deveron has excellent fly water through most of its length. The Spring fishing can be worthwhile but the main runs come in September and October, with sea trout fishing at its best in June and July. Fishing is available throughout the river, although the best beats between Huntly and Turriff are generally booked well in advance.
Turriff Angling Association also makes its water available to visiting anglers.
The river Ugie is a worthwhile sea trout river to visit with some great catches to be had on a good day.
Very much a spate river with its flow affected by land drainage, the main runs of sea trout appear in June, with salmon arriving later in the season, usually September and October. It is a great sea trout river, the Ugie produces in the order of 300+ sea trout in a season, with the sea trout averaging about two and a half pounds.
The river Ugie fishery is regulated by a local angling association, from which both season permits and day permits are available. The main river, which was in the past one of the most prolific sea trout rivers in Scotland, can be fished from the village of Longside east to the golf course bridge, near to the mouth of the river, for the most part from either bank.
Access to the river is available from a number of parking areas made available by local farmers.

The river Ythan rises from the Wells of Ythan, at the eastern end of Strathbogie, and flows the thirty odd miles eastwards to enter the North Sea, via a four mile long estuary at Newburgh. It is on the estuary that the fishing is concentrated, with anything up to around 2000 sea trout being caught annually.
Day permits may occasionally be available when the time-shared beats are not in use. The local angling club at Newburgh still has access to a limited area. It fishes well from late May onwards, peaking in July. Fishing may also be had further upriver at Methlick and Ellon
Permits can be obtained from the Ythan Fishery
